If you’re looking for a mid-day pick-me-up, why not try a tasty energy bar rather than pouring yet another cup of coffee. Or if you're in the market for a pre-, during, or post-workout energy blast, energy bars can be a great option and are easy to pack for travel. So, if you’re wondering what bar is best for you, check out the list below.

	Clif Bars
Clif Bars are known for tasting great – with yummy flavors like oatmeal raisin walnut and crunchy peanut butter. They also have a pleasing chewy consistency, like a soft cookie. In addition, they are make with organic, natural, whole food ingredients. Also, they come in both regular and mini sizes so you can cater to your appetite.

	Larabars
These gluten-, soy-, and dairy-free bars come in tantalizing pie flavors, and are great for individuals with food allergies. They have a palatable, chewy texture that doesn’t crumble.

	PowerBar Harvest
This is the new PowerBar label made with whole grains. These bars are tasty, easy to chew, and generally have around 240 calories per bar with 45 grams of carbohydrate, 7 grams of protein, 4.5 grams of fat, as well as added vitamins and minerals to make them extra healthy! The Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip flavor is a favorite!

	Balance Gold
Many say that this line of bars is one of the tastiest, with the Caramel Nut Blast recommended as a good substitute for a Snickers bar. Most Balance Gold bars have approximately 210 calories, 7 grams of fat, 15 grams of protein, and 23 grams of carbohydrate.

Living in a small space is tough, especially when your decorating options are limited by rental rules and landlord laws. Let these ideas inspire you to make the home (and space) you want.

Open-Air Furnishings: It's tough to maintain openness in a crowded apartment room, but choosing armless furniture helps create an airy, unfettered look, giving the illusion of more space.

Back Up Your Furniture: "Floating" furniture makes for a great floor plan, but it leaves a wide expanse of sofa-back in the open. Use that dead space to your advantage by slipping a slim glass-top console behind the sofa for a small office area.

Curtained Bookshelves: One this apartments often have going for them is open wall space. Re-work a pair of sturdy bookshelves into an attractive storage wall, and cover them with curtains that match or complement your window treatments.

Find Versatile Furniture: Can't find a spot for extra pillows and throws? Go low with scootable ottomans that seat and store. They can pull extra duty as a side table, too, with a tray on top.

Exploit Your Kitchen Walls: Prevent crowding on less-than-roomy kitchen counters by looking to the walls for storage. A magnetic strip mounted high on the wall provides a resting place for knives. Hang a line of hooks close to the ceiling to organize space-hogging pots and pans. Perch rarely used small kitchen appliances or large pots above the kitchen cupboards.

Hide Unattractive Storage: You might be lacking a dedicated home office, but you still probably have a set of unsightly steel file cabinets that need a home. Cover them up with fabric, and they become a convenient side board!

Keep Loose Paper at Bay: Sometimes there's just not enough room for everything. A small apartment requires you to get serious about organizing, starting with space-consuming paperwork. A simple Parsons table leaves plenty of room for color-coordinated storage boxes underneath and office supplies up top.

Smart Home Office: Make your living room pull double duty! Mount open shelving the length of the room, all the way to the ceiling. Rest a glass top over short file cabinets, then cover with fabric and hook-and-loop tape to create a long desktop.

Undersink Know-How: Think above and below for finding extra storage — above bookcases, cabinets, and shelves, and below sinks, countertops, and tables.

Best Use of Awkward Corners: Help the area blend with the rest of the room by adding accessories, such as a thrift-store lamp with a new shade.

Original Bookshelf Use: Co-opt small spots of empty wall for attractive storage. Find (or build) a bookcase that fits the wall space, and fill with matching baskets or containers.

Space-Conserving Seating: Most apartment living rooms have space for a sofa, coffee table, and maybe a chair — definitely not enough seating for hosting a group of friends. Solve the problem with fabric-covered cushions that make sitting on the floor not a big deal. When they're not needed, the cushions can be stacked or stowed.

Be Storage-Savvy: Extra closets are storage are a rarity in apartments, so make do with your own storage shelves.

Bare Wall Cover-Up: Dingy white walls are a trademark of apartments and rentals. Cover them up and create a neat picture display by stapling fabric over a piece of corkboard. Hang it on the wall and pin pictures, swatches, or clippings to it.

No-Hole Art: It's a common dilemma among renters: How do you include art in your home without losing your deposit money because of holes in the walls? Art doesn't have to be the framed, put-a-hole-in-the wall variety. Collect objects that highlight an interest, and use them to add oomph and color to a room.

Craft Hideaway: Projects in progress can really mess with your orderly living area. Group all your supplies in one shelving unit and tuck it into a corner.

Focus on Details: Add graphic accent pillows to the couch and any chairs. Invest in several rugs to cover up standard apartment flooring. Place a table lamp on top of a stack of books to show your home is anything but cookie-cutter.

Make Your Own Coffee Table: Shove a pair of ottomans together to make an impromptu coffee table. Top with a piece of glass (or a large mirror) to create a place to spread food when entertaining.

Light Fixture Fix-Up: Standard apartment dish light fixtures leave much to be desired. You can cover them up by tacking a scarf or square of neat fabric to the ceiling over the light fixture. The fabric hangs far enough down that it won't heat up or scorch, and the pretty colored light shines through below.

Make your space work for you, and feel free to get creative!

We all know how it goes. You're whipping up that gourmet meal that you have been planning all week, and you open up the over to discover that not only has your roasted chicken subjected itself to a blackened death, your apartment is now consumed in smoke. As the alarm starts blasting in its glory, you panic — what do I do?

First of all, relax. It happens to the best of us. Not everyone has the Emeril Lagasse gene, so there is nothing to be ashamed of. Secondly, DO NOT OPEN YOUR FRONT DOOR. As the smoke detectors are both hard-wired and battery operated, if you open the door and let the smoke out into the hallway, this will set off the alarm for the entire building. Not only will you be ashamed that you burned your chicken, but now you have woken up every resident in your building, which isn't pretty.

If this ever happens to you, please make sure to open your windows to let the smoke out. By opening the windows, you are allowing the smoke to escape, but also making sure that you don't set off the building alarm. When the building alarm goes off, the fire department is called, and we would definitely like to avoid having them come out here unless it is actually an emergency! If you have any questions about this, please email teramkt@windsorcommunities.com.

This homey, comfortable café located in Kirkland’s bustling Rose Hill neighborhood has earned a real reputation for itself as one of the city’s most satisfying places to grab a bite to eat. Opened in 2009, this is truly a family business – owner Greg Waham employs lots of “cousins” to wait tables, wash dishes, and more. After your meal here, you’ll feel like family too. Although they serve food all day, regulars know that breakfast is where the kitchen really shines. Their potato pancakes are spectacular – thin, crispy and incredibly flavorful, served with delicious applesauce. Omelettes are a popular choice, with the prime rib version stuffed full of amazingly tender, perfectly-seasoned meat. The prime rib is available in a number of other versions, including a great egg scramble. If you’re looking for a little Southern flavor, their chicken-fried steak is also incredible. Portions are massive and prices are very reasonable, so bring the whole family.

Not all moms were created equal. While some just want to sleep in and be off diaper-duty for a day, others long for an indulgent brunch or a decadent day at the spa. Some mamas are content with chocolate, flowers and handcrafted gifts, while others appreciate more luxurious presents. Check out our special Mother's Day gift guide to find something special, just for her!

Flowers: Though it may seem trite, there's a reason why giving flowers on Mother's Day is popular. Like flowers, being a mom is a beautiful thing, and beautiful things definitely deserve each other's company.

Candles: Loved by women for their flattering and soothing light, and mind-clearing aromas, you can never go wrong adding to your mom's candle stockpile.

Gift Card: The saying goes "it's the thought that counts," but the fact is, letting moms choose their own special gift will guarantee they get what they want.

Gift Basket: This idea may seem better suited for a corporate convention, but not every gift basket is created equal. Packed with her favorite gourmet foods, and useful tools to make cooking them a real pleasure, a customized gift basket from Dean & DeLuca is a very classy gift. Home Spa Treatment: While celebrating all of her accomplishments as a mother, many women find themselves reflecting on all the time that has passed to get here. By giving the gift of home spa products, she can treat herself to a relaxing day at home while marveling at all she has accomplished.

Home Decor: The old throw rug on the couch has started to resemble the Dead Sea Scrolls and a soft merino wool throw should provide her comfort even when you're not around. Sweet Treats: Sending over a basket of treats will make her feel great an indulge her sweet-tooth urge she often says no to.

Greenery: The process of caring for a living thing is an instinct that typically stays with moms long after they've kicked you out. To cater to this instinct, give her beautiful greenery she can also tend to.

Perfume: Scent is the most powerful sense attached to memory, so make sure you always remember your mom in the best possible way.

Massage and Spa Treatment: After a lifetime of making you feel good when you needed it the most, treating her to a day of relaxation is one small way of paying her back.

Allyson says: I'm sorry. I can't help. I love the Buffalo Blasts from The Cheesecake Factory. I eat these heart-wrenching nuggets of goodness not even once a year, but when I do indulge, it is worth every single calorie! Follow the recipe below to create your own version at home!

	2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1-1/2 tablespoon salt, divided
2-1/2 tablespoons fresh ground pepper, divided
1/2 tablespoon onion powder
1/2 tablespoon garlic powder vegetable oil, for frying
2 cups flour
4 whole eggs, beaten
1 package (16oz. size) large wonton wrappers
1 cup shredded mild cheddar cheese
1 cup Frank's Red Hot Buffalo Sauce
Blue cheese dressing, to serve

	Instructions:

First, season both sides of chicken with 1/2 tablespoon salt, 1/2 tablespoon pepper, onion and garlic powder. Cook in skillet until cooked through; try not to brown the outside too much. (You can also bake it in the oven or boil the chicken). Once cooked, put on plate and shred chicken with a fork. Leave aside.

Preheat a large pot with vegetable oil to about 350ºF.

To set up breading station: in one container, mix together flour and remaining 1 tablespoon salt and 2 tablespoons pepper. In another container, beat eggs and sprinkle a little bit of salt and pepper as well.

To assemble, take 1 wrapper, sprinkle a little bit of cheese in the middle, place shredded chicken on top (leaving enough room to still fold over), and drizzle some Frank’s Buffalo Sauce over the chicken. Take a pastry brush and brush some egg along 2 sides of the wonton. Fold over, corner to corner (like a triangle) and press together to close. Once all are made, start breading by dipping first in egg, then cover well in flour.

When all are breaded, place in oil and fry a few minutes on each side, until lightly browned. Serve with blue cheese dressing and enjoy!
